About the Image(s)
This image of a modern church was taken on my recent trip to Iceland.
The image was taken with my Olympus OM-1 with a 12-40mm lens. The camera was hand-held, and the settings were manual focus, f7.1, 1/1000s, ISO 400, +0.3 stop.
I was aiming for a dramatic mono image, so following basic adjustments in Camera Raw I made the following changes in Photoshop:
- Corrected the perspective, then removed background distractions and the light post in the foreground.
- Added a different sky with some clouds.
- Converted to mono using Nik Silver Efex.
- I copied this layer and then masked off the church and cross.
- I darkened the background using curves and a gradient fill.
- I then applied a whole series of curve adjustments and gradient fills to different segments of the church and cross.
