This rose was shot indoors using a combination of natural ambient light from a large window and an LED light diffused through a white umbrella. My camera was on a tripod with settings of ISO 100, shutter speed of 1/10 sec, manual focus using a Lensbaby 56 lens. These lenses don't retain f stop setting information on the file and I forgot to write it down, but I think this would have been F 11 for the sharp detail.
Edits were as follows:
Lightroom - I needed to remove the part of the clamp holding the stem. I increased exposure and opened up shadows.
Photoshop - I expanded the canvas/background to give a little more room around the flower.
Topaz Studio 2 - I added 3 filters - a texture that applied all of the different colors, the Smudge filter to play with the overall texture, and a Gaussian Blur filter. All were in normal blend mode but with varying degrees of opacity applied.
Added the thin blue stroke around the image in Photoshop.
Original 1 is straight out of camera. Original 2 is after Lightroom edits and expanding the background in Photoshop.

The crispness of this lovely flower image is impressive. That musst have happened because of the texture you added, as I was surprized that you still have such crispness after adding the Blur layer and Smudge filter. The result, however, is beautiful with the edges of each pedal well delineated. I wouldn't do anything to this image. It is just lovely.   Posted: 11/09/2024 16:38:15

Your originals are both lovely Denise. I love the depth you achieved. Your colorful treatment is fun and unique. I never would have thought of doing that. The blue outline is just right. Nicely photographed and processed!   Posted: 11/23/2024 15:59:39

Denise, this is a beautiful image. I thought I commented on it when I saw it earlier this month, but see I did not. All of them are beautiful, which ever you choose to go with, because the detail is there in all.   Posted: 11/30/2024 03:07:46

I really like the shapes and detail in the original after processing in LR. The processing in Topaz has given the image a more quirky feel. Personally I am not a fan of the blues in the final version.   Posted: 11/30/2024 11:18:06

Quirky and unusual was what I was playing around with Carol. I attended an online workshop on creative editing techniques and wanted to try some things out. Normally I would have been extremely happy with my original lightroom edits as well. But it was fun going a bit out of my comfort zone, LOL.

It is always good to try something different, that way we keep on developing.   Posted: 11/30/2024 15:07:58
