Deux Lions Kenya by Sophie Pouillon, QPSA

July 2024 - Deux Lions Kenya

About the Image(s)

The photo shown is of two brothers, and I particularly like the way they lift their paws at the same time.
It's hard to choose from all my images, but you'll see more. I couldn't master my Nikon 180/600 zoom lens at all, despite learning about birds. I switched back to the much brighter 70/200 2.8.
The animals are so ready that it's easier too.
I loved observing animals in their natural environment, and I had a lot of respect for them.

A great image of the pair of brothers. It really does look like they are strutting around as the kings of the jungle. I would have got a bit closer, then a bit closer still - no, just kidding!! You are close enough to pick out lots of detail in the lions and your shallow depth of field works for this image, so well done.   Posted: 07/08/2024 20:55:02

Thank you, beginner's luck and, what's more, this ball in my stomach that tells me I'm living a unique moment... I loved the Masai Mara.   Posted: 07/08/2024 22:00:23

Sophie, what a wonderful travel experience you had! Nice detail on the lions, the eyes are sharp, and you can see the texture in the hair. What ISO were you using? My only suggestion would be to add a tad bit more room at the bottom for the lions to "walk into".   Posted: 07/21/2024 16:36:47

Sophie, the sharpness in this photo is superb. While the lions themselves are beautifully sharp, I also like the sharpness an colours of the grass in front and around them. Wonderful use of depth of field, concentrating our attention on the lions, while also providing just enough blur in the background. Bravo indeed Sophie. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in the Masai Mara.   Posted: 07/22/2024 07:00:23

Great shot Sophie. The focus is excellent. You were way too close for me, getting such a close shot with only a 200mm lens. The lion on the right is looking right at you, kind of scary.   Posted: 07/26/2024 14:47:42

Trip of a lifetime Sophie, and I'm happy that you went to the Masai Mara. This is a wonderful image. The softness of the background is very nice as our eye leads us directly to the two lions and the viewer is not distracted by the background if it had been sharp. Well done with the sharpness on the Lions. Good use of the depth of field @ 2.8...looking forward to seeing other images from your trip to Africa.   Posted: 07/31/2024 23:50:50
