Rusty Pinckney
About the Image(s)
I took this image of one of many lakes in the Canadian Rockies with my cell phone while on vacation in Alberta, Canada. This right out of the camera; no editing done. I see opportunities now, and am interested in comments from the group.

This could be a great photo with a lot of processing: it needs contrast, sharpening, a little saturation, a lot of burning and dodging. It would be better with a little less foreground and more of the mountains so the the main peak is not chopped off.   Posted: 04/10/2026 21:07:43
Rusty - Moraine Lake is a fabulous location with that deep turquoise water backed by impressive mountains. The one thing I would suggest is to straighten up the horizon - with water it is always obvious if the image is a little tilted. If you want to do a bit more, I suggest darkening down the mountains a little to bring out some more detail in there, and I agree with Sanford that you could crop a bit off the foreground rocks - the Lake and Mountains are the main subject and the rocks just need to provide a base. Canada 2003 was my first ever holiday with a digital camera - this reminds me of why I should go back!   Posted: 04/12/2026 21:55:07
