This is the River Rothay as it exits Rydal Water in the Lake District, taken a couple of weeks ago during a cold period. Taken at 9:40am, we were walking past this spot to reach a different location on the lake, but looking over a wall, I noticed this view with the trees balanced either side of the river. The final image is not too different from the original, but there are about 30 Lightroom adjustments to get more detail in the sky and lighten the foreground, then a dozen Photoshop layers to enhance the saturation and soften the image.
Technical Details: Camera: Canon EOSR5, Lens: RF 24-105mm F4L at 27mm, F11, 1/80s, ISO400. Edited in Lightroom, then finished in Photoshop.

A superb image Gordon, from capture, through processing and to presentation. You've done a fair amount of work on this one and it has produced a great final image. Your balancing the foreground colours and bringing some detail back to the sky, without loosing any of the mood of the mist on the river is very effective.   Posted: 02/16/2025 03:03:29

Thanks Ian. I usually do quite a bit of processing if I think the image is worth it, but I mentioned it in this case because the final image is not too different from the original. Quite a few steps, but small ones.   Posted: 02/17/2025 11:40:46

Beautiful image Gordon. The layers of fog make it very mysterious and intriguing. I also like the strong reflection of the trees in the water. Well done.   Posted: 02/16/2025 23:44:24

Thanks Jay. I hadn't really considered the trees on the right, but yes, it helps that the water is still and gives a nice reflection.   Posted: 02/17/2025 11:42:03

Gordon, my first thought was, "Is this the Lake District?" and sure enough it is. You are a master at PP. Well balanced tones and your adjustment of the foreground is well done. Kudos!   Posted: 02/22/2025 17:54:34

This photo was taken on a foggy day and is balanced by the trees on either side of the lake. It's very soft, and your treatments are effective in revealing the magic of the moment. Well done.   Posted: 02/23/2025 09:54:22
