About the Image(s)

It was taken on a d750 with a Tamron 150-600 lens hand held.

The wolf is in a rescue center in Ireland called Wild Ireland. I processed in Lightroom and Colour Effex and tried to darken the background whilst still holding detail.

Trevor - I think this guy's fur shows up much better in the mono. Also. it has a vignette appearance (I don't know if you added this) that really maked the wolf stand out. In the color, the trees detract from the beauty of the animal. I would love to see the tiniest catch light in his eyes. -MCS   Posted: 09/05/2023 13:18:59

Thanks Melissa, I'll have a look at getting a catchlight as I think it would draw attention straight to the eyes, many thanks for the feedback   Posted: 09/19/2023 15:01:17

Hi Tevor,
Thank you for sharing.
By taking out all color out, the main subject became standout. I like the positioning of the main subject.
The detail and texture of furr are well-presented.
Maybe it is because of my monitor, but it looks a bit blurred in the face of the wolf, especially the eyes. Did you point the eyes for focus?
But I think this is successful BW conversion in my opinion.

Hi Haru, I will check the focus around the eyes. I have a number of similar images but this was the one that had the best eye contact. I could well be that it has picked up focus from the nose instead. Thank you   Posted: 09/19/2023 15:03:16

So beautiful! It's images like this that make me love black and white. In the color, we're distracted by the … you guessed it, the color! The color version is a "pretty" image. But, in the monochrome, the wolf's solitariness evokes an emotion. The black and white version is a "poignant" image. Well done!   Posted: 09/07/2023 14:30:32

I like this image as is. I did try one edit to eliminate the background and focus on the dog as well as lighten the white a bit. In doing the lightening I did get a bit of detail lost on the right side and was unable to compensate. I did one with a slight crop to the right side but in doing so took away from what Finn was resting on.   Posted: 09/08/2023 12:08:54

Thanks Ed, really appreciate you taking the time to try a different processing. I'll definitely have a look at darkening the background a bit more on the original as it makes the wolf stand out more.   Posted: 09/19/2023 15:05:46

Thanks Don, the feedback from this group has helped a lot. It is always constructive. It is interesting for me to look back at previous rounds and try to take on board some of the comments.   Posted: 09/19/2023 15:07:09
