About the Image(s)
I am a big fan of abstract photography and I am a big fan of Science Fiction. I was working on some images I captured at one of the newer buildings on the UC Davis: The Campus Social Sciences and Humanities Building. It is constructed of metal and Concrete and looks like something out of Star Wars. I decided to crop in, and increase the contrast and then open it in Nik Silver Efex Pro. Then I used a Luminosity Mask.
The image was taken with my Nikon Mirrorless with a 28mm lens. I shot at ISO 500 at f11 @ 1/125s.

Hi Don,
Thank you for sharing.
Since the original is not posted, I am not sure my comments would be relevant.
But looking at the BW image, my eyes lost what to look. The sky looks soft action, so it does not distract my eyes, which is good.
As my eyes travel through the building, they stuck in stains of the building. I guress that is not what you were expecting. Sorry I cannot help you well this month.

I love the distorted viewpoint and the contrast between the light, wispy clouds and the concrete and steel building. The building has interesting windows, too. Like Government Art Deco. I wonder if you could use a brush to make the stained concrete in the left-side foreground and along the bottom of the frame solid black? Great eye, Don!   Posted: 09/07/2023 14:50:15
Don - I like all the angles in this one. Although I like more dramatic skies in mono images, this one has lots of gentle character to contrast the lower dark area. My eye keeps wandering to the "stripe" in the right part of the building. I believe it is a stain from water run-off, but looks like a shadow of a pole. I would clone that out and see what you think.   Posted: 09/11/2023 08:23:36
Thank you Melissa, you have a good point. The building has so may water stains becase it is made of metal, but I do agree it is a distraction. I was hoping it was going to be an interesting stain that might have made the viewer wonder about it. I will try is both ways. Thanks again.   Posted: 09/18/2023 19:45:19
I love the image, the lines and angles have real impact. I tend to love really dark skies too but I think in this case it may draw attention away from the building. Would love to see it with a darker sky and compare the images. Cracking image either way   Posted: 09/19/2023 14:49:28
Some real good images this month and my only suggestion would be a slightly dark sky. I did try one crop on the right just to see the effect, and it very quickly was post to my trash bucket.   Posted: 09/21/2023 09:57:07
