About the Image(s)

A more recent image taken last spring and looking forward to this year’s growth. This is an immature Dogwood blossom. Those large leaves are called bracts and the actual flowers are in the center and are very small. Eventually the bracts open into four large structures. Taken with a Z9 and 105mm macro lens. Comments welcome.

Hello All,

My original images looked very flat-both of them. So went back to LR to see what's up. It turns out I was exporting with the HDR setting in the Develop Module; kind of interesting result, but still flat. So I went back into LR turned off HDR and this is the result-new image here. It turned out much better for display...   Posted: 03/07/2025 10:04:47

Hi Ed. Funny how things happen when you use both LR and PS.
I really like the bolder image. Each time I pull it up and look - I am a little distracted by the white blobs in the background. I don't think deleting them is the answer becaue they give "stem" context to the image. Perhaps darkening them by tiny degrees until they are not so noticeable.   Posted: 03/07/2025 11:40:46

Hey Melissa, Good suggestion. That is very easily done as the second version does pop! Thanks.   Posted: 03/07/2025 15:40:48

Hi Ed, this is a well composed and sharp image. The BW stands up much better, but the colour also has some good point. I agree with Melissa and would make one slight change , that being a touch more exposure in the Centre to bring out the seeds a bit more

Thanks Ed. Yes that initial entry was little flat. Overall it does need some discrete dodging and burning to highlight the center.   Posted: 03/18/2025 14:04:11
