About the Image(s)
The attached photo was taken this past weekend as the temperatures dropped and I found that Kangaroo Lake, one of my favorite photo locations, was mostly frozen over. The photo shows a winding path of frozen water that must be a current and the rushes poking through the ice. It’s a shallow area and great in the summer for dragonfly’s. Nothing moving the day of the photo. I used a Canon R5 with a 20-200 lens at f/13, 77mm, 1/320th second exposure, and 125 ISO. Post processing with Lightroom and only slight changes to the sky and foreground.

I love all the lines and swirls in the image, overall making it a very pleasing to the eye and soothing image. The blue sky and the forbidding clouds provide some added interest, but honestly my eye stays on the winding paths produced by the frozen lake. I really like this image! Thanks for sharing.
We forget there is cold weather living in the "sunshine state". Nothing freezes over here and it is nice to look at but still glad I do not have to deal with that weather driving.   Posted: 12/15/2023 14:41:42

It's been an interesting winter so far, with this lake the only one with ice. We have no snow and our daily highs (so far) in the mid-30's. Still a bit cooler than the sunshine state :-)   Posted: 12/18/2023 13:53:00
Nice scenery. Calm waters are overlooked by menacing-looking clouds. I live in Buffalo, NY - a similar story of relatively warm December. The ice formation gives the illusion that it is a frozen pathway. Lovely image   Posted: 12/19/2023 10:05:51
A great image Gary. I may be very wrong on this point but the implied height/perspective at the very bottom of the image leads me to think you took this from your true height, while standing upright. Nothing wrong at all if that was the case, but that is exactly what everyone does. How would this image look or differ from all the others, if the camera was at knee height? Perhaps the dark ridge in the far background might disappear from the scene, but would the foreground ice become more prominent and have more impact? Just thinking out loud and after all, you were there and I wasn't.   Posted: 12/20/2023 23:38:42
I think this is a terrific image and composition save for the white cloud in the upper center that draws the eye. Also, the very dark clouds also draw the eye so I tried to minimize both by cropping down to eliminate most of the dark cloud and then used the Patch Tool in PS to change the bright white cloud to grey - I also added a bit of contrast and texture and vibrance to try to get the image to pop a bit more by brining more detail into the road.   Posted: 12/23/2023 15:47:10
Normally I'll write my reviews in WORD then copy/paste onto the site but upon re-reading I see I must have clipped part of my comments so I'll recap again. Other than the white cloud this is a dynamite image - the winding road is such a subtle and powerful feature in this image it can't but help to bring the viewer into and thru the image and whenever a maker can do that, at least IMO, he or she creates a winner - this scores well in any photo club with or without the cloud - nice job!   Posted: 12/25/2023 08:01:51
Thanks everyone for your feedback. It's helpful to hear other views and post processing ideas as well as thoughts on composition.   Posted: 12/25/2023 13:46:26
Great capture. The tumultuous clouds, the frozen lake, and the brown yellow warm tones of grasses are excellent and amazing. Great composition also. Well done   Posted: 12/29/2023 03:06:13
Gary - way cool! I know duh, I like the lines very nice, but not crazy about leading right at me. Could you have stepped more to the left? that way the leading line might be shifted more to the right and you would have gotten more of the ice on the right - or do a pano. Great image.   Posted: 12/29/2023 18:59:42
