Yes Dave, our photography is meant to be fun. As we don't get much snow down here and absolutely none in Sydney this one does imply cooler temps. No squirrels either, as far as I'm aware. Our possums might be similar but not quite the same. So what if the eyes are closed, all our native animals are allowed to have some down time as well. Dave - I love this image - your perspective, the exposure, the way you captured the subject's tail and the detail in the snow. I'm sitting in high 90"s heat wave, Dave and appreciate your change of environment a lot ....though I will not see snow again unless I go back to visit in the north....! I really like the monotone, it suits the image...grey squirrel and white snow. The closed eyes just remind me that wildlife learn to adapt to their climate and sleep whenever possible. Dave - I think the closed eye makes for a better story given the snow - its like "I am so cold, so maybe if I close my eyes it will just all go away". I like the ed in paws and the way the head fits in the open space on the left. The image might be a touch crowded at the bottom but still just perfect. Ray   Posted: 08/11/2026 01:17:25

Dave, I spend winter in NE Wisconsin and during the most snow filled and boring winter days, can't help but get lots of squirrel photos around my bird feeders. They are fun and humorous to watch. I like your composition and the detail. I actually like the squirrel "sleeping" as they often do on my deck, especially if the sun is out. I like his head position which is almost framed by the blurred pine or cedar branches on the left side of the image. One thought to consider is converting to B&W to get more contrast and maybe drama in the image.   Posted: 08/21/2026 18:56:35
