This image is almost embarrassing to talk about. I was watching TV after a brief (and rare) rain shower when my wife Bobbi said, “Look at that rainbow.” For context, we live in the Catalina Foothills of Tucson, with an “up close and personal” view of Catalina Mountains from our back deck.
Our home, as many do in Tucson, has a ‘great room’ (living room, dining room, breakfast nook, kitchen) separated from our patio by four floor to ceiling windowpanes and two glass sliding doors: it’s almost like bringing the outside into the house- we’re most fortunate.
When I saw the rainbow, I wasn’t sure just how long it would last, so I quickly picked up my camera and dialed in f9 and 1/640th second Tv and under exposed by a full stop (the R5 was already set for Auto ISO) and got of a couple of quick shots handheld. I’m glad I did; had I stopped the put the camera on my tripod and use a lower ISO the ‘bow’ wouldn’t have had the vibrance you see here.

I would have opened up the foreground a bit even though it is in the shadow of a mountain. I think it is a keeper - 36x24 metal print on the wall.   Posted: 11/12/2025 20:20:41
