About the Image(s)

This month's image comes from Forster, as did last month's, but while that was a sunrise looking out from one of the beaches, this one is a sunset looking over the lake. While we have no control the colours in the skies, nor the clouds, we must take what we get on any given day. While a number of images were taken to show the reflected colours on the water surface, I was also taken with the clouds and how they all seemed to point towards the setting sun. Something I've not seen too many times before. During our time at Forster and still now, I'm searching for "Long Exposures" to use in a presentation I'm preparing for my camera club later this year. Details are: Nikon D810; Tamron 28-300 at 28mm; ISO 100; F10; 5 seconds (courtesy of shutter priority) and tripod mounted. Processed in LR and PS.

A truly gorgeous sunset image Ian, and I agree, the clouds act as great leading lines - the image has immediate impact and warm color of the water gives your image a most pleasing tone. I didn't feel the dark areas on either side of the reflected water helped the image, so in my VF I cropped in and down to keep your 4x6 format that works well here. I also opened the shadows and added a bit of texture and clarity in LR to bring out some detail in the water, that I feel is the star of the show, and toned down the highlights to focus on the tranquil beauty of the scene - really like this image   Posted: 04/08/2025 14:35:48

Thanks for your comments Butch. Shadows, highlights, texture, clarity and a few other things are all standard items I address in my processing. I'm one of those people who believe "less is best", so maybe I don't go as strongly with them as others might. We all see and do things differently.   Posted: 04/18/2025 23:19:09

What a beautiful Sunset! I love the way you have captured all the clouds leading into the actual sunset. The warm colors leading you right where you want the eye to go. I also like the "city lights" and trees visible on the the horizon, which pulls your eye into the skyline. I like the "atmosphere" you have created with the image! I've tried shots like this on the "beach" here at several locations, and never seem to be pleased with the outcome. But there is nothing "beyond" the beach's end and I just never liked the result. If you've noticed I rarely do sunsets, as a result. Thanks for sharing!   Posted: 04/13/2025 18:36:32

Thanks for your comments Sherry. So many times I go out to shoot a sunrise or sunset, but the clouds or conditions are just best described as very ordinary. But when they do come together, it becomes a very happy experience.   Posted: 04/18/2025 23:22:16
