About the Image(s)
This was taken on January 25th on the shore of Lake Michigan. While the lake generally doesn’t freeze any longer, we do get ice buildup along the shore. I converted it to B&W as there was no real color to speak of, mostly grey’s and white’s. Taken with a Canon R5 and an RF70-200mm lens at 70mm, f9, ISO 320, 1/6th second exposure. Post with Lightroom and Topaz.

What a terrific composition - Gary, my modifications are subtle, but in my VF I sharpened, added tonal contrast in the Nik Suite, opened the shadows and used the linear gradient tool in LR to darken both the top and bottom edges of the frame to draw the viewer's eye - where along Lake Michigan's shore was this taken - this is a dramatic shot   Posted: 03/14/2025 16:16:43
This is a great image Gary. It's a sight we generally don't see down here. Your conversion to B&W is effective and I do like the addition of NIK's tonal contrast in Butch's VF version. It does bring a lot more punch and detail to this one overall.   Posted: 03/17/2025 06:56:00
What a powerful image of a unique phenomenon. Love the composition, the feeling of movement and the stark landscape of frozen water. I think you have captured the essence of life in the frozen winter of Michigan. I lived there for 4 months while in my 20's and decided the waters were not something I could tolerate. My starkest memory is getting up at 6 AM to be at work by 7Am with streets snow covered and icy....this brings back some memories!   Posted: 03/22/2025 19:36:10
