About the Image(s)
This photo was taken on a trip to the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona. I was attempting to get a better shot of the Colorado River, but the distance and parts of the canyon made it difficult to get what I wanted. I’ve tried a number of attempts at post processing and because of the scale of the location, I’ve always wondered what the most interesting result could be, so I’m looking forward to others suggestions.
The photo was taken with a Canon 6D MkII with a 16-35mm lens at ISO 250, 35mm, f/10, and 1/640th second exposure.

Gary - the Grand Canyon, even as glorious and spectacular as it is, it is NOT an easy place to create a strong composition, but you did a really nice job with this image - The Grand Canyon is so vast, that photos more often than not, fail to capture its grandeur. Additionally, the lack of a clear foreground element can make GC images appear flat. The best GC images I've ever seen contain clarity, detail a good DOF, and atmospherics such as lightning, storm clouds and rainbows and when you're lucky all of the above - nonetheless, this is a really nice shot.

Thanks for your feedback Butch. I agree that it takes several visits and numerous location attempts to have a chance at a good image.   Posted: 02/13/2025 22:54:10
This is an outstanding image Gary. The depth you have provided by use of foreground, background and the valley (gorge) leading us in is very strong. Sharpness from the nearest foreground to the very distant ranges and clouds is also very strong. I particularly like your time of day, which has the right amount of shadow on the left of the image, while also lighting up the colours on the right side. Very well done.   Posted: 02/16/2025 03:25:47
