Fall Foliage in Kyoto by Peter Cheung

February 2025 - Fall Foliage in Kyoto

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at the end of Nov last year in Kyoto, Japan. Kyoto is awash with beautiful fall colors during Fall season, especially from the end of Nov to the middle of Dec. Almost every temple in Kyoto has many maple trees and other colorful trees scattered throughout the temple. It was a rainy day when I arrived Kyoto so there were not many tourists in the temple. It gave me a great opportunity to photography the amazing Fall colors in a rainy day. The camera settings are Nikon z8, Sony 24-105mm, 31mm, f/4.0, 1/60 sec, iso-800, hand held. I used Topaz sharpen AI to remove motion blur because I handheld the camera at a lower speed that resulted in some shakes.

Peter, your concept and color are spectacular. The issue I have is that leafless or dead branches going every which way, don't add much to a photo - in my VF I tried to remove as much of the dead/leafless stuff as I could, then cropped in and moved the woman a bit further from the center - what a gorgeous shot - just terrific!   Posted: 02/09/2025 17:50:12

A wonderful image Peter, everything I would expect to see in a Japanese garden setting. Autumn colours, pagoda and a woman with a parasol on a bridge above water. I wonder if she was with you and agreed to model for you, or if she was another visitor who just happened to stand the right way, in the right place at the right time. Just a tiny issue and of no real consequence.   Posted: 02/16/2025 04:10:48

Great image Peter. The colors really pop out, so you did some good work in capturing the image and post work to brighten things up on a rainy day. I like the composition with the temple on the left, and the bridge leading up to the person with the parasol. My eye was drawn to the central area of the image and stayed there to see the intricate details of the temple, bridge and trees.   Posted: 02/17/2025 20:04:02
