About the Image(s)

One of the many incredible and isolated spots in Iceland we visited in our travels. Located on the southwest coast of Iceland. Our trip was in August and at that point in time there were few tourists, so most of the spots we visited for images were both desolate and remote. Coming from several areas in the States (NJ, MD, NY area) all highly populated and finding beautiful spots like this with no other visitors was surreal. This is near one of the glaciers and the stop was really about documenting the beauty of Iceland! Taken after climbing a steep slope to get to a spot above the base.

Taken on 08/2018 with Nikon 750 and 24-120 Nikkor lens at 120mm on tripod

A well composed and executed landscape shot with great color, depth, and balance. The photo has a strong composition with the layers leading the eye toward the striking cliff formation. The reflection in the water adds depth and the foreground grass gives a natural frame, creating perspective

The scenery is stunning, but I would crop down and eliminate the clouds that although beautiful I don't feel they add to the story

A very good image Sherry and it does reflect both the vastness and emptiness of the location. It's hard to find a location that doesn't have lots of people. I like the mass of the mountain and its reflection in the water. You have a good foreground with the middle layer of water which helps isolate the mountain from your location. Makes it seem somewhat out of reach or inaccessible. I agree that the image could be cropped to reduce the sky as it doesn't seem to add to the image.   Posted: 02/13/2025 22:59:33

I'm forever the rebel. I don't mind the clouds at all Sherry. While the grass in the foreground gives this image a base to sit on, I feel the clouds provide a ceiling and help stop our eyes going out the top. They also help bring some depth into this image. That's what I love about our photography, we can all see things differently. Sharpness throughout is good and your use of colours before you at the time is also very strong. The sense of a barren landscape and solitude is strong.   Posted: 02/16/2025 03:15:25
