This photo was taken in Wedge Pond, Alberta when we visited Banff National Park at the end of September. The Fall colors were at their peak when we visited there, and the view was stunning and gorgeous. This photo was taken shortly after sunrise. To make the image more interesting, I found a location behind some beautiful aspen trees and created a frame using the aspen leaves as the foreground. This photo was created by blending two images together through focus stacking; aspen leaves frame the foreground, with a pond and mountains in the background. I need to use masking to blend the two photos together so that they are both in focus. Camera settings are Sony a7riii, Sigma 14-24mm, f/11, 24mm, 1/100 secs, ISO-200.

It was a beautiful place you visited, and a great scene to shoot. Focus is good and the combination shot of near and far is successful.
But I don't care for so many large leaves framing the scene. I would prefer none on top, and not so close to the ones on the bottom. This is a personal preference, how I would have shot it, not an absolute criticism.   Posted: 11/12/2024 19:28:09

Peter, very beautiful image!!!! Love the scene and the fall colors. I understand Stephen's comment about the leaves...and believe that regardless of which way it is offered, it is an artistic choice. Like Stephen I probably would have eliminated the top flowers, but then I really look and find the more artistic version you present has much to be admired. I think I would like them either way. I love the way you framed it and think ti perfectly embodies your title. Nicely done Peter!   Posted: 11/22/2024 19:49:55

Peter, a dear friend of mine down here says something like "an image is successful, if it causes viewers to pause, look and comment, rather than just walk by". Your image does cause discussion. Personally I don't mind the leaves as they add to the story, provide good depth as they are so close compared to the trees on the other side of the lake. A great image regardless of how you might want to process it further.   Posted: 11/25/2024 04:16:18

Peter, I like the thought that went into the image. I like the framing with the leaves, and would consider the comments regarding how much, but they do hold the eye into the photo. My first analysis on seeing the photo was that it must have been a stacked image. I like the mountains in the background and the reflections in the lake. Excellent photo.   Posted: 11/26/2024 21:44:10

Peter - most creative. When I look at the image I find it a two step process - the leaves you used as a frame and the mountain scene - I cropped in a touch in my VF   Posted: 11/27/2024 03:45:11
