About the Image(s)
This image was taken from the top of Malham Cove in North Yorkshire. There’s a 400 +/- step ascent to get to the limestone pavement at the top and these girls who came up just in front of us had decided to take a break and survey the landscape from their vantage point.

Nigel,
This is a beautiful landscape, and you've rendered it very well. I can imagine the feeling of arriving there, sitting where those girls are, and simply enjoying the panorama.
That said, I'm afraid this is not an image that would capture my attention for very long if I saw it posted elsewhere. To me, it conveys the feeling of a quick snapshot rather than a photograph taken with a specific purpose or a clear visual intent.
Best wishes,

Nigel, I realize that my horizontal reversal changes the realistic perspective of the image, but I feel it brings a new dimension to the composition, with the two admirers now appearing to gaze into the beautiful landscape. The lighting beautifully enhances the atmosphere and adds depth to the story. I wholeheartedly agree with Michele, it's a stunning panorama, and your capture of the countryside is truly beautiful!   Posted: 10/13/2026 12:32:11
You captured a beautiful country scene well, looking at the image makes you feel very relaxed. I wonder if there are other ways to shoot the scene utilizing those interesting lines and make them a bit more "artistic".   Posted: 10/13/2026 23:51:43
This is a lovely landscape image of a beautiful countryside. The rolling green hills, winding paths and ancient stones guide the eye through the landscape. The people sitting on the rocks in the foreground add a human element and a sense of scale.   Posted: 10/19/2026 17:00:10
A good image's greatest strength is its ability to tell a story: the landscape is not merely something to look at; it is an experience to pause and appreciate. The placement of the hikers is particularly effective to attract attention without overwhelming the landscape.
I think it's a girl and a boy (on the right).   Posted: 10/20/2026 00:00:39

Thanks for all your comments. The picture was taken really to capture the two of them looking at the vista - I was doing the same from behind them. The horizontal reversal doesn't fit with me because I know the place so it is uncomfortable to look at.
Spring - there's a lot of small fields around this area and some photographers capture the lines, mostly in black and white - good spot.
Michele - part of the purpose was exactly as you described - a snapshot, but knowing the area as I do, I was hoping to convey the thoughts of peace and isolation that I thought that must have been part of what they thought as well.

I think this is a lovely image. The two girls really help set the scene -- their sitting there and gazing across the countryside definitely helps draw the eye into the image.   Posted: 10/21/2026 15:38:21
