Midnight Whisper by Spring Zhang

August 2026 - Midnight Whisper

About the Image(s)

This is Yosemite in June, ISO 125, F18 to get everything in focus, 1.0 second to silken the waterfall and the water the river. Very minimal post-processing, a little bit of increased contrast, dialed up the shadow to bring out some of the details in the vegetation.

Lovely composition of El Capitan and Bridalveil Fall in Yosemite National Park. Your decision to use a slow shutter speed worked perfectly to create the softness of the river and fall. The image seems a little "cool" to me, maybe with an overly blueish tint. Doesn't need much but you might try warming it up just slightly.   Posted: 08/04/2026 18:42:12

A beautiful view of Yosemite Valley-towering granite cliffs frame a peaceful river, while lush greenery and a cascading waterfall create a serene. The cool blue tones give the scene a tranquil feeling.   Posted: 08/08/2026 17:30:57

Thank you Mike and John for your feedback.
I just realized the title for this image is not correct, it should be Yosemite Spring. "Midnight Whisper" is another image :)   Posted: 08/09/2026 20:56:59

Spring,

This is a beautiful composition of this classic Yosemite National Park scene. I agree that your choice of shutter speed is spot on, creating a silky effect in the water without making it look unnatural. The image appears a little flat overall, but I like the contrast between the lush greens and the mountains.

Best wishes,

I think the composition here is lovely. The small "belt" of greenery across the middle just binds the two mountains together really well. It is a bit on the cool side but there again, with the lack of sunlight and coolish sky, I think I'd expect it to be. It gives a peaceful feel to the image whilst keeping the drama of the mountains.   Posted: 08/17/2026 15:03:58

This is a classic and well-balanced framing of Yosemite Valley, with El Capitan on the left and Bridalveil Fall alongside Cathedral Rocks on the right, anchored by the Merced River in the foreground. I agree with the others that there is an overall cool color cast, especially on the granite walls.   Posted: 08/18/2026 16:59:38
