About the Image(s)
Here is my image for July. This is the pier at Walton in Essex, taken during my camera club's annual trip. We took a trip to the seaside when there was almost zero visibility because of the sea mist. It occurred to me that this was a good time to do something moody, gritty and use some post processing to get the best out of a bad job. The light, although there was such a heavy mist, was intense and the dynamic range was extreme. I've pulled it to where I wanted it to be and the image has done very well in competition.

We've had a couple of A++ images this month and I'm definitely including yours. This is a gorgeous abstract piece that would look great blown up and hanging on my office wall!! It's a quite dreamy and soothing piece to reflect on.   Posted: 07/01/2026 13:40:51
Very moody image, I like the minimalism. The little bit of dark clouds on the left gives the otherwise uniform sky some interest.   Posted: 07/03/2026 03:47:51
Nigel, this is a wonderful image.
I love its minimalist feel, particularly the way the tiny line of light from the left draws the viewer's eye toward the pier. The use of negative space in the sky works beautifully and adds to the overall impact. It is a very strong photograph, and I am not surprised it performed so well in the competition. I have to admit, this is the kind of image I wish I had taken myself.
best wishes

This image is very moody and minimalist. The long breakwater acts as a strong horizontal anchor, slicing the frame between the sea and sky, while the small triangular structure on the left provides just enough visual interest. The large negative space gives it a sense of emptiness. Also, the black-and-white treatment suits the scene perfectly.   Posted: 07/08/2026 04:49:56
Nigel, this image is truly striking. It's a wonderful example of the power of simplicity-elegant, compelling, and beautifully executed.   Posted: 07/08/2026 12:05:07
This is a very evocative image. It feels less like a documentary landscape and more like a fine-art photograph about solitude and atmosphere. Good job.   Posted: 07/09/2026 00:58:35
Thank you for all your lovely comments. I think that the weather helped me significantly in making this image. It was a great trip with my photo group.   Posted: 07/09/2026 09:40:47
