Teton Morning by Spring Zhang

July 2026 - Teton Morning

About the Image(s)

This is early morning at Grand Teton National Park. We arrived on site just as the rising sun was peeking out of some thick clouds illuminating part of a mountain peak that fortunately was not covered by clouds.

ISO 640, f11, 1/160 seconds. Post-processing includes some dehaze, increased contrast, opening up the shadows of the vegetation which was kind of dark, and a tiny bit of temperature increase on the illuminated peak to add some drama.

Another wonderfully composed image! I suggest cropping a little off the left to remove that bright dot of sunlight. The eye always goes to the brightest areas of an image, so this can attract the viewer's attention away from the main focal point. I also wonder if the sunlight on the mountain is a little too bright. It might work better to darken it just a little so that it won't be as overpowering.   Posted: 07/01/2026 13:38:54

Thank you for your suggestion. I didn't notice that bright spot on the left until you pointed that out, agree removing it will be helpful. I don't think I brightened the sun-lit mountain top, I did raise the temperature a bit to accentuate the morning golden glow, will go back and make some adjustment and see. Thank you.   Posted: 07/03/2026 03:14:08

Spring, you always seem to find the most breathtaking locations! This is an absolutely gorgeous image. The colors, sharpness, and incredible detail really make it stand out. I do agree with Mike that a slight crop from the left side might strengthen the composition even more, but it's already a beautiful photograph. Love it!   Posted: 07/01/2026 18:30:25

Hi Spring,

another beautiful location, well captured. I think your choice to crop the image to a 16:9 format works well because it gives a strong sense of the openness of the landscape. I agree with Tom and Mike about the bright spot on the left. I also think that slightly darkening the mountain would help bring back some of the details that are lost in that area. The reflections and the clouds are excellent features that add a lot to the image.

best wishes

This is a beautiful and classic landscape photo with exceptional lighting on the mountain peak. The river creates a strong diagonal anchor that draws the viewer's eye towards the glowing peak and its reflection. The balance between the dark, moody foreground trees and the illuminated mountain gives it a nice contrast. Really well captured.   Posted: 07/08/2026 02:55:33

Good choice of crop to show the open space. I find the intense warmth of the light on the mountain to be at odds with the remaining mountain side which is quite cold. As you said Spring, you deliberately did this to accentuate the light. One of the members of my photography group said to me that sometimes to judge the balance of an image, turn it upside down and see what looks out of place. I think that would work here. Nevertheless, a beautiful place to be. One other thing I thought would be to warm up or lighten slightly the grassy area immediately behind the lake before it gets to the trees.

This is a beautiful spot for photography. I was there long time ago to capture the fall color:https://youtu.be/1Y0rBwHJcpo?si=LiXHXBNNNhu5XKZK Love this composition and overall color tune. I would give more sky reflection at water.   Posted: 07/09/2026 00:47:07

This one caught my eye whilst browsing through this months images because it is taken from a location where I took a similar shot on slide film with my Olympus OM1 about 40 years ago. Thanks for the memory.   Posted: 07/10/2026 19:21:26
