About the Image(s)
This dead liveoak tree is a favorite hangout for buzzards and turkey vultures on our place in the Texas Hill Country. I captured these three vultures hanging out one morning. There is a highway about a quarter mile away, so they could be resting before looking for roadkill. Captured with a Canon 7D using a 70-300mm lens at 272mm, f/8.0 at 1/600 second. Minimal processing in Lightroom, mainly to bring out the blue sky.

Very cool photo, I wonder if it's relatively rare that you see three vultures in the same frame like this; it's probably also rare that they are all lined up in the same direction. You were at the right place at the right time. Nice details on the feathers. Overall a pleasing balanced photo.   Posted: 07/08/2025 22:48:54
Very cool image Nigel. I agree with Spring you were lucky and ready to capture three vultures looking in the same direction and placed on the tree like they were posing for you. I find the image a little soft, but this can be due to the small size of image required for posting here.

It must be a rare encounter, a great capture and sharp image!   Posted: 07/16/2025 23:02:36
This is a nice composition that employs the rules of odds, with the three vultures positioned in a triangle formation. The portrait format helps frame the attention to just the vultures. I also agree that it is well balanced.   Posted: 07/21/2025 17:59:07
Well balanced and captured Mike. Good subject matter and convenient that they turned up in a threesome!   Posted: 07/22/2025 09:34:57
