Taken with iPhone 15 ProMax Raw mode last week. I damaged my Nikon camera at Divorce Beach when a pacific wave pulled me down. iPhone is the only camera available during my two hour sunset cruise. At least I could capture the beautiful moment.
The cruise ship in the photo is Carnival Firenze. It is a Vista-class cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line. It was originally built as Costa Firenze and will join the Carnival Cruise Line fleet in early 2024. The ship, which has a capacity for 4,126 guests, sails from Long Beach, California, to Mexico, offering 2-5 day and 6-9 day cruises. The photo presents a sense of GOODBYE.

I like the ratio between sea and sky here and also the tones and reflection in the water. The difference in size between the cruise ship and smaller boat is not really apparent owing to the difference in distance between them. Nicely captured.   Posted: 07/03/2025 09:41:08

John,
I think this is an excellent conceptual image. The sailing boat is a little one but to me represent the soul for people that love exploring the sea in harmony with the nature. Big cruise ships like that one are one of the worse source of pollution in the world. I can see your image as the hopebig cruise ship will disappear soon... After expressing my grumpy side, I have to say sorry for your loss of camera (I understand you since I lost my first Z-7 falling in the water...). However, your photo just show how good the phone camera are becoming. The image is sharp and I guess it has been taking with the zoom. Color are beautiful and so subject placement.
best wishes

John, love the comparison between the 1063' cruise ship, the 40 plus foot catamaran and the massive expanse of sea and sky. The warm earth tone colors of the sky and reflection on the sea really make it. The crop or angle of exposure is SUPER. Very well seen John.   Posted: 07/04/2025 13:08:32

I agree with Tom. Very well done. Can't think of a thing to add to what others have said. Where's John going next month?? Love to live vicariously through you.   Posted: 07/08/2025 14:12:26

Love the brilliant color of this image. The expanse of the beautiful sky makes it very dramatic. Simple compositional elements, yet the image doesn't feel empty. Very nice job!   Posted: 07/08/2025 23:17:35

The color really makes this image. The warm orange light that baths everything in its glow gives it a visceral feeling. The negative space in the top two-thirds of the image actually works with the light along with the darker clouds that acts like a diagonal leading line, drawing the viewer's eyes towards the lower third of the image where the cruise ship is juxtaposed next to the sailboat. I like how all the elements work together here.   Posted: 07/21/2025 17:41:34
