3 Cows, 6 Horns by Mike Patterson

April 2025 - 3 Cows, 6 Horns

About the Image(s)

As I was prowling through my old files, I found this image from long-ago of three longhorn cattle relaxing in a field. It was taken down the road from our place in the Texas Hill Country. I was attracted by the design of how the cows were lined up with each other and the contrast of their color and the green grass. Don’t remember any camera settings, other than it required minimal editing in Lightroom and cropping.

Mike, really like this image. The grass makes a perfect background and how you ever caught three giant steers lined up in a perfect pose is amazing. Crop is good and the image is certainly interesting.   Posted: 04/07/2025 23:46:57

In most competitions you enter, the title has to match the image so that's one box ticked Mike! I'm with Tom here, it's all about the timing and three random cows wouldn't have told the story like this. Well waited for.   Posted: 04/12/2025 13:34:54

Mike, I think the way the 3 cows are placed creates a perfect diagonal line. The few red flowers add some interest. I personally think the image would benefit by a little bit more space above the horns. I feel the crop you have chosen is a little bit too tight. The title is definitively perfect.

best wishes

Mike, took Michele's suggestion and added some space above the horns and I think it made a big difference.   Posted: 04/19/2025 00:37:13
