901 Simonton by Tom Buckard

March 2025 - 901 Simonton

About the Image(s)

This image is of a very old falling apart house on Simonton Street in Key West, Florida. Every year it has the most beautiful Bougainvillea.

This image was a 9 shot HDR, processed with Aurora then converted into B&W. Then I erased anything that had color under it. Some PS along the way.

Camera: Nikon D800, lens: 28-300mm, exposure: 1/320 sec at f9.0, ISO 100

Wow! This is a fabulous image. I admire the creativity and skill at turning a rather mundane looking house into a picture that pops. I love how you converted the background into B&W, and then made the Bougainvilleas come alive with color. I also like the blue accents you kept on the house. This is a real show-stopper.   Posted: 03/04/2025 08:13:32

Mike, thank you for your comments. In all color I didn't like it and in B&W I also didn't like it. A few little tricks and some time made it a lot better.   Posted: 03/04/2025 08:54:11

This is a stunning image with the beautiful red of the Bougainvilleas. Turning the house into black and white is a wise choice because it hides the fact that the house is old and falling apart. The clouds above the house is very dramatic too. A very creative image!   Posted: 03/06/2025 01:57:44

Spring, I am one that likes old, rustic and abandoned objects but this house although catching my eye needed something. That's how I had the idea to use anything of color to make it interesting. Thank you for your comments.   Posted: 03/09/2025 08:28:16
