My late morning photo of the Portland Head Light on Cape Elizabeth, Maine was made in June 2026. It's an image likely taken millions of times. Wanting to be different, I turned in into black and white for added drama and to give it sense of presence. I’m looking forward to your comments!

I like your conversion and cropping. Sharp throughout. Great texture details of the Lighthouse, and all the costal rocks.

Bradford like the choice of black and white. Cant fault the exposure or the angle of the lighting, the absence of clouds is a good one. Great pic. Posted: 08/14/2026 01:42:57

Bradford, very good composition (framing). I just love the B&W tones you got. Did you do anything unusual - other than a plain panchromatic conversion from color to B&W? The tone scale is perfect! Posted: 08/14/2026 15:49:41

Hi Bradford, What an interesting and engaging shot! It gets you "up close and personal" where you can see all the details of the lighthouse and building. However, I can see how this building could have a commanding presence in a wider angle shot that included a bit more in the foreground and sides rather than occupying the whole photo.
