About the Image(s)
This picture was taken on the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall fairly close to Beijing, China a few years ago. It's a rare image with so few people on the Wall, because it is often crowded shoulder to shoulder with wall walkers. I like it because the wall gives the image a real perspective and movement through the picture. I took it handheld with a Panasonic DMC-FZ200 bridge camera, at f/4, 1/640th sec, ISO 100 at 40mm.

Great one Kirk the wall feeds nicely into the pic, lighting works well and the people add interest and perspective to the pic. Yo sure get around.   Posted: 01/04/2025 07:43:49

Thanks for your comments, Geoff! I was lucky with the weather that day. Many days there are foggy or smoggy.

Hi Kirk,
Lucky You! It is almost impossible to get an opportunity to capture an image of the Great Wall without troves of tourists obstructing a view of the walkway!
Lovely composition with the wall zig-zagging through the rugged mountain range. The few tourists are very helpful in grasping the perspectives, and adding some accent colors.
No suggestion to offer on this great image.
Another keeper.

Hi Kirk. There are two sites to see Great Wall from Beijing. Mutianyu and Badaling. I visited Badaling. Obviously, Mutianyu has better point of view. Like you, I came early in the morning for less visitors. I like your image. It's clear from front to back with a nice leading lines.   Posted: 01/06/2025 23:02:47

Thanks for your comments, Frans. I didn't get to visit the Badaling site, so don't know the comparison, but the time of day and whether the day was a holiday made a big difference in crowds. There are a lot of nice spots for images where I was- if you can see them through the crowds.   Posted: 01/07/2025 01:34:00

How well I remember my attempt at the Great Wall. You were so fortunate to get that weather and a great shot was the prize.   Posted: 01/20/2025 15:02:16
