Aggressive Grackle by Mervyn Hurwitz

July 2024 - Aggressive Grackle

About the Image(s)

Grackles are very common in my backyard and are a nuisance as they dominate my bird feeders, preventing the prettier birds from getting close. normally I would never stop to photograph them. However this female grackle was taken at our local bird sanctuary, and her aggressive stance makes it an interesting picture.
Sony A7IV 100-400mm lens at 400mm. ISO 1250, f8, 1/2500secs. Manual exposure.
There was a second bird on the branch but I chose to crop her out.

I do like the emotion in this bird. Wish the lighting had not been so harsh. Nice cropping.   Posted: 07/06/2024 19:47:23

Yes, that Grackle definitely has something to say.   Posted: 07/06/2024 22:03:27

The composition is good and the expression on the bird is awesome. Pity the light is so harsh. If you use LR you may be able to tone down the harsh highlights with luminance masking and a subtle color temperature change.   Posted: 07/08/2024 14:49:00

I do love this bird's attitude. There is a feather or something up on her back that I would consider cloning out. I do like the way that the branch angle compliments your bird.   Posted: 07/10/2024 04:26:11

This is a lovely image. The subject is very expressive and the colors are nice. The background is not that busy which really highlights the subject well.   Posted: 07/15/2024 14:10:50

Very nice. The message is very clear: This is a very protective Female Grackle - Do not mess with her!
