About the Image(s)

This was taken at our local board walk. The birds are very active at this time of the year with nesting and raising chicks.
Taken early in the morning about 20 minutes after sunrise, the chicks were anxiously awaiting their parents to be fed. I hung around for about half an hour but they did not show up.

Sony A7 IV 565mm, Auto ISO 1250, f6.3, 1/2500 sec Manual mode on a monopod.
Cropped and then used Topaz photo AI to sharpen and denoise.

I do like the way that you've brightened the image to bring out the details in the chicks. Potentially I would've looked at removing whatever is hanging from the beak of the chick on the left   Posted: 04/05/2026 05:20:08

Mervyn,

I like your crop but also think that a bit wider crop that would more fully show the nest within the Y of the tree might work too. The background is totally without distractions, which works well.   Posted: 04/06/2026 00:47:09

I would like a wider crop also as you can still see the subject, but the nest is a nice addition. Exposure edits are right on!   Posted: 04/06/2026 19:27:25

I enjoy the photo that you used. I think the edits make sense. I do agree with the others though that a wider crop would be interesting. I think the height looks good in the crop but I think if it was slightly wider it might help to position us and see how the nest is situated.   Posted: 04/08/2026 18:13:52

Here is my original crop. However I felt that the bright sky to the left and right of the nest draws my eye away from the chicks. Which crop do you prefer?   Posted: 04/14/2026 14:36:19
