About the Image(s)

As per the revised PSA DD guidelines, please see attached my original and post-processing image.

Title: Canada Goose in the rain.

Image captured on March 15th, during a rainy winter day.
I was attracted by the water droplets on the head and body of this goose swimming in its natural environment (TIFFT Nature Preserve - Buffalo, NY)

Equipment: OM-1 Mark ii, OM 150-400mm lens, hand held.
Set-up: 300 mm (600 mm full frame equivalent), ISO 800, 1/200 sec, f/4.5, EV 0
Post processing: cropping, noise reduction, and light adjustments using ON1 Photo Raw (increased contrast, decreased shadows, etc…)
I am looking forward to all comments and suggestions.

I do like the rain droplets on your goose. I differentiates it from the standard goose shot   Posted: 04/05/2026 05:24:39

Nice capture of a goose in its natural habitat with rain drops forming on its feathers. The enhanced brightness of the reeds helps the image have more impact. Next time see if you can get the goose to swim toward you :).   Posted: 04/06/2026 01:45:49

I agree with Dean with the position of the goose. I also have a tendency to add catch light to make the eyes stand out more. The yellow grass looks good.   Posted: 04/06/2026 19:31:53

Thanks Cindy. I agree with you. I watched this goose for a while, and unfortunately did not want to come towards me.   Posted: 04/12/2026 01:08:48

The rainy day makes the lighting very flat with little contrast between the goose and the background. It is well positioned in the frame and I don't mind the side view as the eye is prominent and you have left plenty space to swim into.
I would also add an artificial catch light in the eye. (In the old days we used to prick the slide with a pin to provide the catch light!)   Posted: 04/14/2026 14:51:18

This is a lovely photo. The bird is very clear and there is a lot of detail. I wonder how it would look if the front few blurred grass blades were edited out if that would change the feel of the image or help bring the bird more into focus. Great Photo   Posted: 04/14/2026 19:07:39
