About the Image(s)

For this month I decided to submit a bit more of an exciting photo than I normally get to capture. I used my canon EOS Rebel T7 with a 18-55 mm lens. The red panda was photographed at the central park zoo and was a real challenge because the little guy would not stop running and the people around me were pushing everyone around to try and get the best view. After about 2 hrs I finally got a photo of him looking directly at me as he tired himself out running. I used the manual focus to get the capture as the auto took too long and I was afraid he would start running again. For edits I first cropped the photo to retain the full body minus a little bit of the tail and then adjusted the color, shadows, contrast, and highlights to try and make him pop out. I think I may have left the crop a little too loose but I would love to hear all of your feedback.

Jacob,
Your patience paid off. You got a unobscured full face image with the body nicely within the foliage. The crop is good too. Nice work.   Posted: 11/03/2025 18:26:58

This is a nice capture and I am totally impressed that you used manual focus! Wow! The tight crop is nice, but I also like the original showing where he is in the trees. He still pops out there. Being a big fan of catchlight, his eyes are great!   Posted: 11/05/2025 17:29:09

Hi Jacob,
Nicely done.
To be very patient is one of the requirements to become a good at nature photography!
The color contrast between the panda and the foliage is great.
I would have tendency to decrease the shadows and black a little bit as I do not see any details on his legs and lower back.
Nice work.
