About the Image(s)
For this month I was trying to take a new photo with my camera but I am struggling with getting photos into good focus without the auto and learning to play with the exposure. So instead I am submitting this photo I took of a koala using my iphone at the San Diego zoo. I did a crop and light editing. I focused on adjusting exposure and lighting.

The branches frame your subject very nicely. The Koala is sharp and well positioned.
I would crop more off the top of the frame to eliminate the bright areas and the distracting leaves on the top right.
Looking forward to seeing more pictures taken with your new camera. You should use autofocus with spot focus to concentrate on the eyes.   Posted: 07/08/2025 18:20:50

Jacob,
I like the crop and the way the branches cradle the Koala.
Modern cameras have fast and accurate auto-focus. That's pretty much what everyone uses unless there are some special circumstances which require manual focus.   Posted: 07/09/2025 01:12:40

I do like the way you have the koala framed. One of the good things about a zoo is that you can get them on a more equal level rather than high up in the trees when in nature.
Keep playing with your camera & use the experience of this group.   Posted: 07/13/2025 01:29:17

Hi Jacob,
Nicely done. I frequently use "manual focus" when I need to aim at an animal that is far in the field. Your camera (EOS Rebel T7 - according to last month post) will have tendency to focus on the nearest point in your field of view. In this case, the manual focus feature will allow you to change your focus point to a deeper one.
Keep on practicing! Looking forward to see more images.

This is a sweet photo and I would never have guessed it to be from the zoo. I agree with the others and think that eye autofocus would have made the koala's face sharper. Good crop.   Posted: 07/24/2025 21:51:45
