Pierre,
I like the perspective from close to the water's surface. I bet you were holding on to your camera firmly. The lighting and shadows on the moose provide visual interest. Is the waterline slightly tilted?   Posted: 07/06/2025 15:25:34

Hi Dean, This was in the early morning hours. You can see that the Sun was very low by looking at the antlers shadows on its neck.
I was sitting on a very low seat, the lens was on a monopod, and I was using the live-view screen angled up with the camera body a bit above my waist to get this very low shot.
Tilted image? Not easy as the grass line was not straight. Instead, I used the vertical lines between the bull and its reflection. You might be right.
Thanks for pointing that out.

The lighting and time of day makes this image an absolute winner. Well done getting low down for this great angle.
I also agree that the waterline is slightly off - an easy correction.   Posted: 07/08/2025 18:14:02

Nothing to add to the above. Photographing from a boat/unstable surface can prove to be tricky.   Posted: 07/13/2025 01:23:52
Hi Diane,
I was with 3 other photographers on the small flat-bottom boat(+ the leader). We were instructed to use monopods to avoid rapid swings of the cameras with telephoto lens as these "swings" would make the embarcation unstable + scare the animals.
I also, as mentioned above, used the screen view with the camera at my waist level - sitting on a very low seat (also to increase stability).   Posted: 07/14/2025 19:42:42

This is a great photo. I am amazed that this is from a boat. The reflection in the water and the sharpness of the image are both amazing. After reading the comments I can also see how the water is slightly off but the slight curve of the grass does help to hide that.   Posted: 07/14/2025 15:38:09

I like how your moose almost looks like he's smiling at getting a drink! This is a very nice photo and I like the reflection, also.   Posted: 07/24/2025 21:47:50
Thanks Cindy. I agree. He was quite busy eating vegetation in the water by the shores of this lake. Water was pouring out every time he was lifting his head.   Posted: 07/25/2025 16:12:52
