Canon R6 RF 70-200 f2.8 @79mm ISO 800 f2.8 1/750
Processing: LR CC, Cropping (just to get it to 4x5), exposure and contrast, selective texture and clarity and then processed in Nik Silver Effex for monochrome.
This was shot in Dulini, Sabi Sands in S. Africa. The 70-200mm lens was at 79mm. Why not at 70, one might ask? Well, when you have a tusker whose tusk is less than 2 feet from the front of the lens, and his drool is all over your seat, one forgets certain controls are adjustable!! Here he's taking a sniff at my guide. Well, after about 5 minutes or so, no, I have no idea how long he stood there, he walked leisurely off into the distance. I guess he wanted to check out the visitors.

Jaswant,
I like this framing; good to get close sometimes. It emphasizes the skin texture and the eye of this great animal. And the b/w conversion works well.

Really nice and intimate monochrome image. This close-up allow an eye to eye contact and very nice skin textures.

Wow. I would not feel comfortable getting this close. Congratulations on keeping your cool and getting the picture.
Was a good choice converting to B&W   Posted: 03/08/2025 10:53:43

Nice! I would like to see the original. If there is any way to have the tusk not centered, that might be better. But, another great shot!   Posted: 03/10/2025 18:31:08

Thank you for the comments and critiques. I have attached the RAW file in JPEG. I don't know if I even tried to move the tusk from the center. Just the way he was standing in front of me. Cropping the tusk out completely would be a possibility but I never thought about it.   Posted: 03/12/2025 04:53:11

I do really like the editing of this image. The eye brought me in straight away & I like the graininess of it.   Posted: 03/22/2025 02:22:27
