About the Image(s)
Seed-head in Pink Haze
I took this shot in a local garden. I had thought of using it in our camera club competition, since one of the themes was “backlit.” The sun was in my face, lighting up the pinkish grasses, as well as one of the seed heads. This is actually a composite. There were seed heads like this in the original shot, but they were obscured, so i used a picture taken at another location of the same kind of seed head and composited them in PS.
Settings: Canon R7, 100 mm macro lens, 1/1000 sec., f6.3, ISO 800.

David, this is a nice abstract. I was trying to understand where they grow pink grass. I like the concept and what you were trying to do. Since you were in Photoshop, I might have put a Gaussian blur on the pink layer to soften that even more. I would also add a layer mask and take a large brush with a broad feather to soften the lines around the seed-head. Overall, it's a great concept and an attractive color combination. I like it.   Posted: 12/10/2025 23:37:19
I think the complimentary colors make this just explode from my screen. The subject is clearly separated from the background and is just sharp enough to stand as a strong subject. I've always a sucker for minimalist images and this certainly delivers. Well done.   Posted: 12/12/2025 21:07:44
David - Immediate impact and strong visual interest, the color palette is striking, and I think the strength of this images is in its creativity - bold, original, and visually arresting. The main critique is that the background verges on overpowering the subject - a different crop might address that and with many ways to go I suggest the maker experiment - a beautiful image, nice job.   Posted: 12/12/2025 21:49:57
I love the simplicity of this, and the colors are so pretty together. The backlight really set that pink grass to glowing. Good idea to put in the one sharp seed head to give a focal point. I agree with Bud's suggestion for smoothing out the transition.
I tend to like a bit brighter images so I'd try this with a slightly increased exposure to see how that looks. But that's the nice thing about backlight, you get to choose the brightness and mood of the image. But overall this is a very nice image.
