About the Image(s)

I took this image while on a workshop in the Utah badlands. I saw shades of Georgia O’Keefe in this one! I cloned out some tangential stuff and rended it in B&W to bring out the graphic nature of the branch.

Settings: Canon R7 on a tripod. Tamron 24-70mm lens shot at 70 mm. 1/25 sec, f 6.3, ISO 6400.

David - great eye, don't think I would have seen that and great thought, I love the simplicity and minimalistic aspect of this image. In my VF I flipped in LR because we read left to right, darkened the background to help the image pop and added a 2mm border because I thought it added to the image - but a very artistic image in any case, as I said, great eye.   Posted: 04/08/2025 13:59:53

Thanks for your kind words butch! I like what you did by flipping it. I also like the edge. The edge works on screen really well to show the edge of the image when it has a black background. Not so good when you go to print it.   Posted: 04/08/2025 20:25:02

The edge is known as "as stroke" something I just learned, I used to call it a border but was corrected - anyway, I agree with you 100%, digitally I like "the stroke" but would not use it if I were printing it - nonetheless, good eye, good shot   Posted: 04/14/2025 17:05:47

Nice! It leaves much to the imagination despite the simplicity -- it could just as easily be a flowing stream as a twisted branch. Drawing the eye upwards, it could also be a statement on the meaning of life -- twisting and turning but ever upwards.

(Sorry, I don't get out much!) :-)

To be able to see the art in the everyday is truly a gift. Nice work!   Posted: 04/14/2025 21:27:46

I keep saying the beauty of monochrome is that with the co9lor stripped away the structure, texture and shapes and form of the subject stand out. Here the contrast really stands out. I think Butch's flip was genius as it creates a flow to the image that is comfortable to view. Shown without the flip the branch feels like it is trying to confrontational

It took a good eye to find this subject.   Posted: 04/17/2025 19:03:14
