About:
Last month we had some discussion about opening up shadows in images. I picked this image as an example of a case where I chose to leave shadowed areas darker and not lighten them up a lot. I felt that the darker shadows gave a better sense of shape to the cat, and I like the way that your eye follows her well-lit leg up to her face without the 2nd foreleg interrupting that flow. Plus it was mid-day when we found her hunting, the light was harsh!
This was taken in Brazil’s Pantanal from a boat. Nikon Z9, 100-400 lens at 350mm, 1/2000 f/8 ISO500. Post processing included adjusting the white balance and brightening the image- I’d wanted to be sure to avoid blowing out the whites. I removed the garbage using Topaz Photo AI- took several tries to get a reasonable result.
