Another rather simple still life image of this Sumo Orange and accompanying kiwi fruit and lime. Here my goal was to make an interesting image out of everyday items (or readably available items).
This was a single shot taken with my Canon R5 camera body and a Canon RF 24-105 mm f/4 L IS USM lens (at 105 mm, 0.25 sec, f/18, Iso 400). The subjects were taken on a piece of black glass, composed to be as simple as possible, with side lighting. Further processing was done to expand the entire field, to bring out more of the subject’s detail and to enhance the side lighting. The background was also cleaned up as well. I love this still life, Charlie! What a beautiful image! I can see this photo hanging on the wall of some gourmet restaurant. The simplicity, the textures, the reflections are all just lovely. I have no recommendation to improve it! Posted: 07/08/2024 15:47:42
Interesting subject captured with nice reflection. The left lower side reflection of the lime is quite a bit lighter than the left side which has the kiawe. The only suggestion is to have the kiawe in a little bit better position, perhaps tipped up a bit more. Posted: 07/10/2024 18:12:33
Hi Charlie: Another neat image created in your home studio.
From a technical standpoint your work is always "spot on" certainly nothing to improve on here, at least on my monitor.
From a composition standpoint the image is pretty well dead centered from left to right, in the case it works perfectly. The well worn rule of thirds rule does not work for every photo, I have sat in on evaluations where the evaluator was obsessed with using the rule of thirds.
I like your top to bottom balance, you have allowed a little breathing room at the bottom reflection and not cut off the top of the orange. Good Creative Work !! cheers. Posted: 07/17/2024 01:16:52

Nice still-life image. Good arrangement and color juxtaposition of the fruits.
I like the mirror imaging produced by the dark glass.
I did use a black tile in the past to duplicate a Calla Lily with similar results.

Hi Charlie, Simplicity was your goal and I agree you have achieved it initially. The black glass under the nicely arranged fruit is striking. The combination of three objects, differing textures and colors is very appealing. Simple but the reflective effects of placing the arrangement on glass is more than simple.
