Hi Pierre: An excellent example of camouflage in nature. The Mantis is not readily apparent without looking closely at the picture as it blends in so well with the background.
Exposure is spot on and I like the subject placement within the frame biased a little to the right side, and not dead centered.
All in all a very well done nature image.   Posted: 10/06/2026 20:39:57

Thanks for your kind comments. The Praying Mantis is all green, and easier to spot!   Posted: 10/06/2026 22:41:30
What an interesting image. Although the subject is hard to find initially, once one does, it's clear and present. The background is a bit distracting, but in this case that is rather the point.
In my mind this image is all about how the insect blends into the background. As such I would have liked to see this mentioned in either the title or in the description. Without that foreknowledge, the viewer might get frustrated in trying to find the subject. With this information the viewer will be impressed as to how effectively this specific story is being told. Managing the viewer's expectations is an importing point in having the viewer see our images as intended.   Posted: 10/09/2026 17:26:11

These are fascinating insects to capture. And they are hard to find. I think your image really represents the animal habitat very well. It is tough to do on a busy image like that but I would try to play with background directly behind the mantis to help him to stand out a bit more - probably reducing some of highlights on the right so the eye doesn't go there. I did like the vignette you added to help with that. The crop is perfect.

Hi Natalia,
Welcome to our group.
Thank you for your kind comments and suggestions.
I have to confess: It was my little young dog that alerted me of the presence of this Mantis ….   Posted: 10/10/2026 10:35:43
