About the Image(s)
I captured this common green bottle fly while sauntering through my friend’s lovely garden. These green bottle flies are 10??“14 mm long, slightly larger than a house fly, and have a metallic blue-green or golden coloration.
Here I used my Nikon Z 50 camera with a NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR lens (140 mm, 1/400 sec,f/6.3, ISO 125)

Hi Alane: A colorful subject placed well in the frame. Wish we had colorful flies, however the ones we have are just black and not pretty at all.
The fly itself does not seem as sharp and crisp as it could and should be, also the background is busy and could be darkened down somewhat to place more emphasis on the fly.
The background has a textured look, did you use a texture filter on this image ??   Posted: 11/13/2025 21:13:33

Nice capture of a bottle fly. Fairly good focus on the subject throughout. f/6.3 at 140 mm allowed a nice focus separation with the flowers, but might have been a little thin to capture the antenae and front leg.
Well done. - no suggestions.   Posted: 11/18/2025 16:26:49

Alane...First, I hope you are feeling much better from your surgery!! I like the fly and down here in Texas, the larger fly is called a horsefly. I agree that the picture could be a little sharper. I noticed your ISO is only 125 which could have been pushed up to at least 400 for a faster capture. The contrast of the fly against the white flowers is such a natural outdoor setting. Good capture!   Posted: 11/19/2025 00:19:26
Great capture with a lot of detail, although here the sharpness is not uniform across the entire fly, especially the eyes where our eyes always seem to search out. I do feel that the background is a bit busy, noisy and bright, which detracts from the fly presentation some.   Posted: 11/20/2025 00:58:37
