About the Image(s)
Recently I have been trying my hand at still life Photography. Here is a very simple set-up with the vase on a 50 % Gray paper base and a 50 % Gray paper background. In choosing the gray backgrounds I can change the background and base to different scenes without loosing the native shadows in the original shot (using overlay or spotlight blend modes). More and more this is the method employed by more advanced still life photographers. In this simple shot I used my tripod mounted Canon R5 camera with a 24-105 f/4 lens (at 35 mm, 1/400 sec, f/13, ISO 500) with a Westcott F400 side flash (manual at 4.0 power) and an appropriate soft box. Note the shot out of the camera and then the final edited version to see the edits made to get the final image.

The colorful berries, the dramatic side lighting using flash really adds mood to this scene. Everything in this image is well thought out and fits together very well.
It is interesting to me you chose not to use your thin border you sometimes use, as the left side of the frame kind of disappears into our black web page.

In terms of a pin stripe boarder, I guess I could of added on, but when I was editing the image, I was not thinking about its presentation in this format. I do not disagree though that it might have a place here in this specific presentation.

Nicely done still photography. Lovely details, light and shadows on the bottle and background.
My only suggestion would be to lighten slightly the top left corner to see the berries better.
Nicely done.   Posted: 11/18/2025 16:30:11
