About the Image(s)

I followed this bee around on Easter Sunday afternoon at the family farm about 30 miles north of where I live. It had rained earlier in the morning but by that afternoon, the sun was out. We have a native plant here in Central Texas called Antelope Horn of the Milkweed family. They are great attracters for butterflies and bees. This little bee was so busy flitting from one spot to the next but I was able to capture the picture from above while he was feasting on the Antelope Horn.

The picture was taken with my hand held Nikon D850 camera, and a Tamron 90mm macro lens (1/3,200 sec, f/8, ISO 640). The picture was greatly cropped to capture the bee by itself. The bright Texas sun sparkled on his transparent wings.

Hi Barbara,
Nicely done and sharp throughout. Well done.
My only suggestion would be not to crop so tightly - I am looking mainly at the end the right wing that is very close to the edge. As the bee is looking to the bottom and slighly to the left, I would also leave a little more room on the top, bottom and left of your frame.   Posted: 05/08/2025 20:56:09

Hi Barbara: I do agree with Pierre regarding not to crop in so tightly, the bee needs a little more breathing room around it.
Background is a little busy but this Antelope Horn flower has a lot of detail and you show the natural habitat well. You have attained very good sharpness on the entire bee front to back and the wings show great detail.

You mention the image is "greatly cropped". In doing so you now have digital noise in the entire picture, it is quite evident in the upper left hand corner appearing as a textured look. This can be removed using your noise reduction tool in your post processing program.   Posted: 05/10/2025 05:50:08
