Honey Bee by Xiao Cai

May 2025 - Honey Bee

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken on 8/10/2024. It was a challenge to shoot the bee well on a busy background, so I tried to focus on the bee as well as I could. I like the result.

I used my Nikon D850 camera (1/250 sec, f/11, ISO 200, Focal length: 210mm) with a Nikon 105 Micro lens plus a 2x Teleconverter and a camera-mounted Flash.

Hi Xiao,
Lovely image. The bee and flowers on the bottom are in focus. The flowers above and to the right of the bee are further back and out of focus. I really do not mind this as it gives a context as well as a soft surrounding.
As mentioned last month by several members, selective focus is not easy to get "just right". I found it perfectly done.
A keeper!   Posted: 05/08/2025 21:20:22

Hi Xiao: Your Honey Bee picture is an excellent example of the use of selective focus in flower photography done very well. The bee and some of the front flowers are in sharp focus, the flowers in the background are in soft focus and create a very pleasant mood for the entire scene.

The warm rich colors of light green, yellow and orange-red all work together to make this an excellent selective focus flower picture with Bee. KUDOS.
