About the Image(s)
Here I used my Canon Mark II (model?) at 1.30 sec; f/5.6; Iso 1,600 at 300 mm. I then used Photoshop to crop, sharpen and modify the contrast.

Hi Neil: Your very dark colored frog is quite different from our specie 400 miles north which is medium green in coloration.
To me the positioning of the frog is ideal, it has room in front of it which provides a sense of space.
In regards to depth of field; at 300mm and at f/5.6 the frog is mostly quite sharp, however not totally so. The rock face in front of the frog is soft in focus, being a dark color that does not especially bother me. What does bother me to a certain extent is the background which is kind of busy. I would darken down the background somewhat, really easy to do in post processing and in my humble opinion that would improve your frog picture considerably.

I like this image of this little critter here. The colors and clarity are fine, although a bit more depth-of-field (aperture smaller than f/5.6) would ensure that more to the frog was sharp. I agree with the earlier comments that the subject is beginning to blend into the background. Here I might darken the background a bit and lighten slightly the rock that frog is on to allow your main subject to separate from the surrounds. You also noted that you used a Canon Mark II camera. This is an incomplete description, and I wonder what model you were using. Mark II often refers to a version of a specific model, and the model reference is missing here.   Posted: 04/14/2025 17:21:48
Nice capture. I agree with the above comments and like the darker background version offered by Xiao.
