About the Image(s)

This photo was taken on 8/4/2024. It was a very tiny fly. I like the image's very narrow depth field and soft, blurry, moody feel. I also like its simplicity.

I used my Nikon D850 camera (1/250 sec, f/11, ISO 200, Focal length: 210mm) with a Nikon 105 Micro lens plus a 2x Teleconverter and a camera-mounted Flash.

I welcome any comments and suggestions. Thanks!

Hi Xiao: To me this picture is all about the soft green mood you have created without any background or foreground distractions, just a sea of green. The fly is quite sharp except for the back legs which are a bit soft in focus.

From a composition standpoint the placement of the fly is perfect. Thanks for sharing this interesting picture with us.

What an interesting minimalist presentation. There is a simplicity captured here that is quite pleasing. The limited focus is quite effective in isolating the fly and the leaf edge. Although the entire fly is not entirely captured, enough was to carry the day here. The composition is nicely chosen, and the color / softness of the background makes this interesting image. Nice job!   Posted: 04/14/2025 18:09:22

In this case I respectively disagree with the suggestions that a tighter crop would be more advantageous. Yes, the fly might be more predominant with a tighter crop, but that would detract from what I see as your vision here. The inclusion of the leaf edge and the empty space all play a significant role in creating your vision within this image and should not be discounted here.   Posted: 04/16/2025 18:14:41

Hi Xiao,
Nice image.
I agree with the comments above.
I personally prefer a tighter crop, but frequently I am limited by the definition and noise issues when cropping too tightly.   Posted: 04/14/2025 21:37:39

Xiao, your image of the fly is most interesting as a result of the colors and composition. I would like to see a tighter crop also.   Posted: 04/15/2025 21:58:18
