About the Image(s)

Title: Cow Wrestling

Taken at the Roy Rodeo last year. I like the way the dust framed the action in this image. The cowboy seems to be a little robust to participate in this event, but he did well in the scoring. I cropped out some of the cowboys standing in the background and the hot temperatures created plenty of dust.

Hi Bruce. Another fine rodeo shot about as close as you can get including both wrestler and cow. All the environmental conditions are working in your favour, the dust is blocking out the background figures, often a problem with rodeos. Sharp focus and strong lighting. Aperture at F 4.5 not completely closed but as closed as this lens will give. Facial expression on the wrestler shows his power in trying to bring the cow down. This guy proves the point, overweight does not mean weak, in fact fat may produce power, Olympic super heavy weight lifters were often overweight and this enabled them to lift huge pounds. I new of one guy who would eat a loaf of bread a day, have 6 meals a day and he won gold medal at Commonwealth games in weightlifting. If interested:

This guy when younger was also a fine Aussie Rules Footballer.   Posted: 07/05/2024 01:14:44

I looked at the website. The 500 kilos was the combined weight of the press, snatch and jerk events -- still, an amazing set of lifts.   Posted: 07/30/2024 01:28:24

Bruce - love the perspective on the "ground level" with the cow wrestler. I agree with you on the dust in the background. It adds a nice layer of simplicity to the picture while communicating how difficult and trying something like this is. I like the crop as it stands now.   Posted: 07/07/2024 23:29:14

Bruce, peak of action, low vantage point, non distracting background, sharp.   Posted: 07/16/2024 03:27:33

Great action -- background, dust, and focus. I thought it might be improved by cropping to vertical.   Posted: 07/30/2024 01:31:34
