About the Image(s)

Title: Red and Blue Smoke

These photos were taken at the annual EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Airventure in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The 2026 “Airventure” fly-in ran from July 20-26, and the seven-day attendance was 734,000. We were there for the Saturday, July 25 evening show, and the featured part of the program were the British Red Arrows.

EAA Facts:
10,000+ Aircraft
6,000 Volunteers
1,600 Workshops and Forums
1,021 Exhibitors
98 Countries Represented

A total of 2,851 show planes were on display, including 1,346 vintage aircraft, 875 homebuilt aircraft, 360 warbirds, 118 ultralights and light planes, 88 seaplanes and amphibians, 40 aerobatic aircraft, 18 rotorcraft, and six hot-air balloons. These three photos of the Red Arrows were taken in a Saturday night crowd of perhaps 85-100,000 people.

Gerry, I like the intricate mesh of color combination created by the planes in the main image and them flying away from each other, however; I find the white missing. All three images are good. The originals do show all three colors. I have done air shows, and itn is difficult to decide which is/are the best images to show (out of thousands.....)   Posted: 08/07/2026 17:55:56

Hi Gerald. Isaac's comments are mine also. All photos are very good, submitted one has a strong central aspect with the planes diverging outwards creating colour patterns. The original I also like as it almost a artistic like the sweeping hand and brush of the artist. Which is the best? Good question it all depends where you are coming from, to me, original, as I've always seen these aircraft and colour displays more an expression of art just like fireworks. The submitted photo the colours are to overwhelming almost a mish mash of colour with 4 little planes. IMO.   Posted: 08/13/2026 22:10:44

That's awesome! I've never seen one of these air shows in person. It must be cool to be there!   Posted: 08/14/2026 05:13:24
