About the Image(s)

Title: Hood River.

This was shot at an alpine lake near Hood River, Oregon. This is a sport called kite foil. We went up there because of the cool view of Mt Hood. The wind is actually horrible for kiting, and the water is probably one of the coldest waters I've ever been in because it's mostly melted snow.

We managed to come out with a shot that shows a bit of action with the rider being able to take his foil wing off the water even, which was a great win in my book. We went there with just the hopes of getting a cruise-by shot.

Andre, perfect capture, and even better taking in consideration the conditions. Peak of action with the foil out of the water. The snowed mountain in the back is the cherry.   Posted: 08/07/2026 17:57:43

Hi Andrea. What a fantastic WOW factor photo, how you took this one could also be as interesting as the photo. You down low at waters edge, capturing the wake from the board, riders face clearly visible in a sport like this almost impossible to get. Backdrop a snow covered mountain, a natural green forest mid ground. A magnificent cymetrical photo showing man, the natural environment and we can all fit into it if we are brave. At my age 75 your photo will do.   Posted: 08/13/2026 21:59:40

Thanks Ronald. Yeah, this one is tricky. I have my camera in a waterhousing. I'm swimming in this lake, the water is probably on the mid 50s.   Posted: 08/14/2026 02:45:11

Make the best of your physical opportunities when young. I remember from surfing films and photos taken during 1990's when photogs were on the same big wave as the board rider, these photogs were fine sportsmen in their own right, if they weren't they could drown or be smashed up like the surfer.   Posted: 08/14/2026 04:09:55

For sure! I ride my bike for around 10 hours a week, mainly to stay fit enough to spend a lot of time swimming. That said, with modern mirrorless cameras, underwater housings have become much lighter, so shooting in the water is not nearly as physically demanding as it used to be.
When I first started shooting, being very fit was a huge advantage, especially for biking and water shoots. But with the introduction of e-bikes and lighter camera systems, fitness is not quite as critical as it used to be.   Posted: 08/14/2026 18:47:21
