Title: Cricket Is Boring

With our new group member Lee Streeton coming from Northamptonshire, hope I am correct. He may appreciate this cricket photo, taken in London at the Lords cricket ground during play at a county cricket match 2019. The batsman playing a very accomplished front foot drive with groundsmen in the background.

Since being a member of this forum, not many photos challenge depth of field (DOF). This photo was also displayed in group 4 HI, they said this is a sporting photo not suitable for HI. However, it was also my intention to capture the two groundsmen taking little interest in the play, one even sleeping?

“Cricket Is Boring” has been plagued by this accusation since back into the late 1800’s. The longest recorded test match was between South Africa and England lasting 43 hours 16 minutes over a 10-day period. The game was abandoned, as the ship carrying the English players had to leave port. Longest time at the crease was recorded by Hanif Mohammad batting for 16 hours 10 minutes.

The photo was taken with compromised settings ??“ 1/640 and F5.6. The aperture should have been at least f11 with increased ISO. I have used this camera setting before with other sports type photos but still not sharp.

The distance between the player (batsman) and the groundsmen is about 65 metres so most photos will not produce tack sharp. I was seated about 65 metres from the batsman on the other side of the ground, total distance from two groundsmen about 130 meters.

Camera Canon 550D, Lens Tamron 18-270, ISO 400, focal length 218mm. The photo was processed in Topaz trying to make both subjects at least acceptably in focus.
