About the Image(s)

Title: Stop Action

Stop Action was created a few years ago at the Davie Florida Rodeo Arena at night with artificial light using a Nikon D4s with the Nikkor lens 70-200 mm f/2.8 with the added 2 x TC for a total of 400 mm and at 280 mm and these settings: ISO 8000, f/4 and 1/1250 sec and +1 EC.

The image was PP in LightRoom and corrected for exposure, light was added to the face of the raider, the image was cropped and transformed into B&W using Silver Effex 2 since the adjustment of the white balance with mixed artificial light rendered non-natural colors.

This venue at difference to the Homestead venue only functions at night with very difficult to handle mixed light.

Hi Isaac. What a fantastic photo, initially I viewed it on my phone and said this photo deserves better treatment than phone viewing. All is top shelf, rider, horse, calf all looking at the lens, very rare for rodeo photos. The conversion to B/W works even better as photo could have been taken 100 years ago. Silver Effex another positive as it gives the photo a real gritty from the earth look, that's rodeo. Photo to compliment the gritty look has masses of real earth covering the horses rear legs. Probably the best rodeo shot I have seen and taken under extreme lighting conditions.   Posted: 08/07/2026 21:45:45

Awesome shot. and really good use of bw. I tend to use bw quite a bit when the light is bad as well.   Posted: 08/14/2026 05:09:06
